=69.GIAP= Training Section
Training of basic flying skills is carried out on-line, one-on-one with one of our instructors. You will be guided through the training process by your respective branch's (GIAP, GSHAP, GBAP) Training Officer. You are highly encouraged to request additional help whenever you want to learn something new or improve your skills. We have real life civil, military and private qualified pilots in the squad so ask for help and it will be forthcoming. However, don’t ask the poodle for advice unless you want to learn how to lick his balls.
Your off-line training that must be passed to move from Kadet to Serzhant is focused on weapons delivery although it will require an effective basic set of flying skills to complete. Use HSFX 4.11!
Basic Training Packs
Once you have settled on your branch affiliation, select and download your curriculum from the GIAP (Fighters), GSHAP (Ground attack) and GBAP (Level Bombing) basic training packs shown here.
There is an old saying amongst real world combat pilots when they are talking about going into the debriefing room after a training mission - "Check your ego at the door!" This is simply because in a life-and-death profession, utter honesty is required both by the evaluator and by the student to improve flying behaviour so that every pilot can give his very best. We hope you take every critique as just a way to have more fun by becoming the best pilot you can. What you do with the advice is up to you - and will probably be reflected in the quality of your flying and by how much fun you have. Kicking ass is far more fun than getting your adversary's size 12 boot where the sun don't shine!
Every mission you fly in training should be recorded. When you are happy with your results or need further help- we encourage you to fly each mission in extensive offline practice - send your best .ntrk to your Training Officer for review, scoring and that oh, so gentle critique! In IL2 you need to "map" or set a key to start/stop recording while you are flying the mission. Use this method because it will generate a quick mission file with a .ntrk file extension. This will be playable on another computer equipped with the same version of IL2. The command to assign a key to is the "QUICK START/SAVE TRACK" command near the bottom of the MISC section of the commands section of the game. The game will assign the recording a name like "quick0001.ntrk' and save it in the "records' folder of the game. Ask your Training Officer if you need help with this. Do not record your flight with the option you find at the end of the mission. This will create a file with a .trk extension which will not play back accurately on a computer other than the one on which it was recorded and therefore is useless for review purposes.
You need to rename these tracks as directed in the training guide for each mission and send them by e-mail to your Training Officer.
Please read and follow the instructions carefully. If you do not do so your Training Officer will have great delight in failing you and making you do it all over again.
You must survive all missions and return your plane intact. Any damage to VVS equipment will be added to you mess bill. Lame excuses like “I shot them all down and then sort of crashed and am a little bit dead but….” will not be tolerated. In fact any correspondence with a senior officer containing the word “but” typically is followed by a visit from the NKVD.
Some hints to help you complete the training.
Do not rush through all the training missions then send 4-5 tracks to the training officer. The purpose of training is not just to pass – it is to improve your technique and to learn.
Take the first mission, make 2-3 tries then send in your track, even if it is not a pass level. The training officer will be watching the track several times from in cockpit and externals. He will be looking for your understanding of the objectives of the mission. You will get feedback and access to illustrative texts or tracks to help your understanding.
Advanced Training packs
These packs are optional and may be undertaken as and when you feel ready or are advised to do so.
You will take off and land a weird and wonderful set of planes from carriers. The last mission of each is optional. Yes it is possible, No I’m not going to tell you how to do it, Yes the XO gets a vodka every time your twin engined fighter or bomber falls into the sea, Yes the costs go on your mess bill.
Erratum:
In the Zero landing mission make sure the plane selected is the right model with a landing hook. If not change it in FMB.
Tips to help you out:
With some planes you can bind keys to raise seat height and/or fold wings. It is best to know the difference between these actions before attempting them in flight.
Bad navigation and weather have killed many more pilots than machine guns. This pack will take you from following rivers like an airborne rowing boat through to blue water navigation with watch and compass in easy(ish) steps. Some missions require you to take screenshots of waypoints rather than record tracks or to describe what happened. You need to install and use screenshot software (fraps and Screen Hunter are both good and they are free.) Read and follow the instructions carefully. Do not send 2 hour long tracks of you flying over water to your training officer. He may not be amused.
Learn to fall out of the sky like a drunken parrot, impress the girls with your huge airbrakes and blow up Tooz’s fishing boat all in the same day.
Learn to tow a glider from airstart and regular take-off to its operational area.
