The Il-2 Armoured Ground Attack aircraft, or ‘Flying Tank’ as it was known in the front, was a fighting aircraft like no other before & fought bravely against overwhelming odds in the Great Patriotic War. More Il-2s were built by the Soviet Union than any other aircraft of the war 36,163. The Il-2 GTTK aircraft played an outstanding & prominent role in the war, fighting on all Russian fronts and had a significant effect on all ground operations across the frontline. Made in a multitude of models, this aircraft was continuously improved & perfected, its armarment increased (even carrying torpedoes) & the armoured outer shell improved constantly to protect the aircraft's crew and vital systems - motor, cooling, fuel etc... Feared by the Germans army & loved by our brave Russian soldier!

Our 69 Giap ground attack Pilots (Shap) excel in the use of this aircraft, making those German columns pay dearly with their blood for any incursions into our beloved Motherland!!
