Hyperlobby
OK so now you can talk to each other but where do we go to fly together? This is where Hyperlobby comes in. It is the place where you will get 900 or more people flying IL2 online most days. It is not the only place. There is an Ubisoft lobby which has a small following, there are tools like the all seeing eye (which I think I heared is being shut down) and it is possible to connect to our server by a direct IP connect. I will cover direct IP connects at the end as they can be useful in an emergency. We use Hyperlobby because it works reliably, it's free, it's the one we use and because if you use a different you won't see much of us.
You can download the latest Windows Client software from http://hyperfighter.sk
There is a manual on that website - read it then Install the windows client software
Erratum. It installs easily on most systems, English, german, French etc. but it doesn't work if you have Windows installed in Chinese and probably not in Japanese, Korean or other odd languages.
As I mentionned there is an excellent manual so I am not going to write another one I am just going to tell you those things that are specific to flying with the squad. Of course fighter pilots cant read and bomber pilots would think it a bit soft and namby to read a manual but....
Important Stuff
All sorts of different flight sims can be flown on Hyperlobby so you must select the right one. We are currently flying IL2 1946 version 4.08m. You will not see this listed but you will see IL2 Forgotten Battles. This is the one you want.
When it does a search for the right executable it will be il2fb.exe that you are looking for. If like me you have several different versions on your hard drive make sure you pick the right one. Don't worry, you change to point at a different installation later without having to reinstall HL.
You probably don't have your full giap callsign yet so just enter =69.GIAP=1234 (pick another number other than 1234 it will need to be one that has not been used before). You will be asked to confirm this callsign by entering a valid e-mail address in chat. Later when you have your full GIAP callsign you will create a new login but you can reuse the same e-mail address.
Now in the begining you will be looking for the squad dogfight server. On the left hand side of the hyperlobby screen you will see the list of dogfight servers that in progress. Normaly there are more than can fit on a single page so you will need to scroll down till you find one that is called =69.GIAP=SQUAD this is the one you want so click on it and join.
Once you have been checked out in the dogfight rooms you will be asked to join one of the campaign co-ops that are the main missions we fly. You will not find these in the front page of Hyperlobby. You will need to click on the space in the middle of the screen where it says GENERAL ROOM. A pop down menu will drop down with other rooms including the one called SCORCHED EARTH when you are told to select that and pick a slot (not the one at the top which is reserved for the server).
OK that's the essentials, I'll write more about direct IP connects, back door entries and other exciting stuff when I have some more time. Again - if you have any doubts or questions get up on Teamspeak and ask one of the squad and if you don't have Teamspeak installed go to the Teampeak technical page and get on with it you malingering Kulag!
