Coming from a poor family Yarick was refused entry in the VVS Military School of Flying, as he didn't make the grade. However when the war started he was drafted in as an aircraft mechanic. He became very good at it and he even came up with his own fuel mix, which included vodka and liquid nitro-glycerin, this made the planes go extremely fast, so fast that some pilots never returned! On one occasion his base was under heavy attack by Ju-88s, as there were only a few pilots in the base his instinct took over and he jumped into an I-16 and took to the skies. In the frenzy of battle he downed three of the enemy aircrafts and two I-16's from own base, before his own aircraft was hit by friendly machine gun fire. One of the bullets ripped through his plane, went through his right hand and lodged itself inside his right eye. Yarrick crash landed and survived his injuries. Instead of being punished for his actions, he was used by the propaganda to boost the low moral in the troops and Stalin himself gave him his pilot wings. Due to his injuries, Yarick suffers from a wonky right hand with a very dodgy trigger finger and he claims to see better with his one eye (although we would have to ask those comrades he has shot down!). Yarick's bullet still remains inside his skull and every day that passes, it moves a bit closer to his brain, especially when he does his crazy maneuvers, causing him excruciating near madness pain. He is now serving with the 69.Giap who stay well clear of him. In his spare time he does volunteer work for the Soviet Rocketry Program. |
